Aftershoot was designed and continuously developed to have multiple ways for you to go about your culling. Whether Aftershoot just finished an AI-Automated cull or you're doing an AI-Assisted one by yourself - Aftershoot has multiple ways to help you review selections better.
Aftershoot Views
There are three different screens for you to review your photos in. Each was designed to accommodate different culling methods and workflows. Let's take a look at them below.
Grid View
When your AI-Automated cull is finished, the selections are presented to you in Grid View. In this mode, you can quickly review multiple photos at once on a single screen. Choose how many photos are displayed by adjusting the slider at the top left of the screen.
Manage which selected photos to review by using the Quick Filters on the right of the screen and look through photos marked as Selected, Highlights, Blurred, etc. All you have to do is click on the filter name and the photos associated with this will be displayed.
If you click on a photo to highlight it, below the Quick Filters, you can see the Key Faces. Zoom in or out to check their sharpness, by adjusting the slider above them. If an image has duplicates, they will be displayed below the Key Faces screen, for you to review.
There is also the option to sift through photos by using Advanced Filters like Star Rating and/or Color Labels. You can change which photos are displayed by using these filters at the top of the screen.
Then change or remove the Star or Color rating by simply clicking where they are displayed below the image. You can also filter your images by Camera Type, Lens, Photographer Name, Image Orientation, and much more.
Loupe View
The second mode to review your photos is Loupe View. In this mode, instead of reviewing multiple images at once, you have a single one front and center. Similarly to Grid View you can see the Key Faces and Duplicates of the image you're reviewing on the right side of the screen. Additionally, below the main image, you will see a carousel with all the images in this session. Navigate through them using the left and right arrow keys.
This mode is the default one when opting for an AI-Assisted cull, but you can switch to it freely by clicking on the square icon at the top of the screen. Switching back to Grid View is as easy as clicking on the button to the left of the square one.
The main purpose of Loupe View is to directly compare an image with all its duplicates simultaneously. Switch between viewing the main image and a duplicate by simply clicking on it or by using the period & comma keyboard shortcuts. A selected duplicate image will automatically display on the main screen, where you can change its stars and colors. You can also swap a duplicate and the selected image, if you like it better, by using the S key shortcut.
In case you need a reminder for this and other keyboard shortcuts in Aftershoot, click on the Key symbol at the top of the screen.

In Loupe View, at the bottom of the main image, besides its name, Star and Color rating controls, you will see three more possible actions. The first one will enable or disable the Color Label in case you don't want to see it. The second one will enable or disable Image Scores, which will analyze the people in the image based on focus and closed eyes, and display the scores for you. And the last one lets you delete the image from this session.
When you're doing an AI-Assisted cull, Image Scores and Color Label are turned on by default. But you can enable them in AI-Automated culls by using the same controls.
Another viewing mode exclusive to AI-Assisted Culls is Scenes View which shows your image duplicates stacked together.
If you want to unstack your duplicates you can just switch to All View.
Survey Mode
To the right of the Loupe View icon is the Survey Mode icon. This is an advanced culling feature that lets you review and compare multiple duplicates of the same image simultaneously. You can also switch to by pressing the N key shortcut.
Aftershoot will automatically detect duplicates and stack them for you to review. The rest of your images will display in the carousel at the bottom of the screen and you can sift through them using the same controls as in other views.
When in Survey Mode, select multiple images simultaneously by holding down the CTRL key if you're on Windows or the CMD key on MacOS. In case you want to select a consecutive set of images in one go, hold the Shift key and drag your cursor over the desired set of images.
The Zoom In feature is synchronized across the group of duplicates that you have on your screen. So when you zoom in on one image, the rest of the images in that duplicate set will automatically zoom into the same spot. Simply place your cursor on the spot you want to zoom into and press the Spacebar key. Alternatively, you can double-click with the cursor on that spot.
In Survey Mode you will be shown up to 7 duplicates at the same time, even if any given image has more than 7. To see more duplicates simply reject any of the first seven. There are three ways in which you can do that. You can press the X icon in the top right corner of the image to reject this image or the X key shortcut to remove its stars and colors.
Survey Mode is best paired with Spray Can Mode, enabling you to quickly rate, dismiss, or select multiple duplicate images in a row, with a simple left or right click of the mouse.
