Every photographer's culling preferences are as unique as their workflow. Aftershoot Culling was designed to be flexible and customizable, so it can be easily included in any workflow.
In this article, we'll go over how you can customize your AI-Automated Culling session.
Start Your Cull
After you create a new album and click on the Start Culling button, you will be able to choose between AI-Automated Culling and AI-Assisted Culling.
When you choose AI-Automated Culling, Aftershoot makes all the initial selections for you, and then you can review and tweak them to your liking.
When you choose AI-Assisted Culling, Aftershoot will group your duplicate images and let you make the selections yourself, while putting AI-powered tools at your disposal, to speed up the process.
From this point, we will be covering AI-Automated Culling, its default settings, and how you can change them to your liking.
Choose The Culling Genre
The first thing you must choose is what type of photoshoot you will be culling. It's important to choose the culling genre that represents the type of photoshoot you want to cull since the AI will take that into account when selecting images.
Automated AI Cull
Once you’ve selected your genre, you need to choose between an Automated AI Cull and a Customized AI Cull.
The Automated AI Cull is the easiest and quickest way to begin a cull. Use the slider to indicate how many images you’d like the AI to select and simply click on the Start Culling button.
If you want to customize your AI culling experience further, proceed to Customized AI Culling.
Customized AI Cull
Here you can dive into the specifics and customize the cull exactly the way you want it. All the changes you make here will impact how many or few the AI will select.
When the AI looks through images it places them into 5 filter groups - Selected, Highlights, Duplicates, Blurry, and Closed Eyes.
Read the description of each filter group below. You can decide if you want to enable or disable a certain filter group during a cull by clicking on the toggle to the right of its title. You can customize roughly how many images will be placed in a group by adjusting their sliders.
Note: As a rule of thumb, the more a slider is to the RIGHT the FEWER images you will be getting, and the more it is to the LEFT the MORE images you will be getting.
Highlight Photos
These are the images that the AI considered the best out of the whole shoot. You can use them to deliver same-day sneak peeks to your customers or share them on your social media accounts. Click on the toggle to enable or disable this depending on your needs or type of shoot.
Duplicate Photos
Aftershoot selects at least one image from every set of duplicates that it groups. If you select Small Groups, Aftershoot will create more groups with fewer images in them, and put more images in Selected as a result. If you select Large Groups, Aftershoot will create fewer groups with more images in them, and put fewer images in Selected as a result.
Blurry Photos
This slider lets you control the sensitivity of how Aftershoot marks photos as Blurry. Keeping it to the left will lead to the AI keeping slightly soft images in Selected. Keeping it to the right will lead to the AI having little no to sensitivity to ouf of focus images.
Closed Eyes
The AI will analyze the images with subjects with closed eyes and place them here. If you don't want that, simply click on the toggle to disable this.
Maybe Photos
Images that the AI didn’t deem good enough to be placed in Selected, but were the best available choices out of their respective duplicate sets. This group will only appear when you for an Automated AI Cull with an Extreme level of culling.
Ready to Cull
Once you're done customizing your cull simply click on the Start Culling button, sit back, and relax.
Change The Settings After The Cull
After Aftershoot is done culling and you've reviewed its selections, you can change the settings and run the cull again if you need to. Simply click on the Restart Culling button and change the settings to suit your needs.
