Getting your AI editing session paused due to a low storage space error means that Aftershoot can't find enough free space on your device to save its cache files.
In this article, we'll cover the two approaches you can take to solve this problem.
1. Free Up Storage on Your Internal Disk
Here are a few tips on how to find some more of that elusive storage space:
Clean your Desktop. Keeping a variety of files on our desktop is just one of those habits that a lot of us picked up over time. We do it because we're used to it or maybe we're just in a rush to download a file and can't be bothered to save it somewhere else. Regardless, you'd be surprised how many old and unnecessary files you can find just sitting on your desktop, using your precious storage space.
Look over Your Apps. Even the most careful of us sometimes have a lingering app or three that we haven't used in ages. Go to your apps list, select sort by size, and see which ones you no longer need, while they're still eating up your space. Just make sure you don't delete anything important or something that might hinder (like drivers, if you're on a Windows PC) the performance of your computer. Rule of thumb - if you're not 100% sure what something does, leave it be.
Temporary Files. Every time you visit a website a certain amount of information is saved on your device, by your browser, in order to make the next visit a little bit quicker. If you haven't cleared your Browser Cache or Cookies in a while, you'd be surprised how much storage you can open up, by clearing out your browser.
Downloads Folder. You'd be surprised how many photos, documents, PDFs, and files that you used once and no longer need, can be found in this folder.
Sort Your Trash. This one is pretty straightforward. Take a look in your bin and delete the stuff inside.
Look into the Cloud. Your device may hold files that you use often or on a daily basis. It can also hold files that you need to store, but use them extremely rarely. Consider opting for Cloud Storage for the second type of files. This way they are safely stored and don't occupy space on your device.
Where are Your Photos? We all know the most convenient place to store your photos is your local drive. But usually, it's also the one with the least free space on it. One way to combat that and the Low Storage error is to use an external drive. Just keep in mind that most External Drives are Hard Disk Drives (HDDs), as opposed to Solid State Drives (SSDs) inside most modern computers, and working from them might slow you down a bit. Learn more about the difference between HDDs and SSDs in this article.
2. Change Aftershoot's Cache Storage Path
By default, Aftershoot chooses to store cache files on the home drive of your device. The second method is to change that path and have Aftershoot stock cache files somewhere else. That would be another drive besides the C: drive on Windows or an external drive on MacOS.
Note: Please keep in mind that after changing the cache path you will no longer be able to access your older albums. Please make sure that you've finished working with your previous albums before changing the path.
Start changing your Cache Storage Path by opening the Aftershoot app and clicking on Preferences in the top right corner on MacOS and Settings on Windows.
Steps to Changing Aftershoot Cache Path
1. Start by opening the Aftershoot app and clicking on Preferences in the top right corner on MacOS and Settings on Windows.

2. Select Import/Export in the left-hand drawer on MacOS and Import & Export on Windows and click on Path to Aftershoot's cache files. You will see a pop-up that will inform you about losing access to old albums. If you've done the steps in the note above, go ahead and press on Yes, I am sure.
3. Browse to where you would like Aftershoot to stock Cache Files and click on Select Folder.
Once you've done all of that, click on Save Changes at the top of the screen, restart Aftershoot and you're good to go!
