Retouching Models Can’t Be Accessed

Written by AftershootAI 🦄

If you encountered this error while retouching, it means Aftershoot doesn’t have the necessary permissions to access its retouching models. There are several reasons this could happen, and in this article, we will cover how to address each.

MacOS

1. Multiple Users on One System

If you have multiple users on your MacOS systems, open Settings and click the Privacy & Security tab. Then click on Full Disk Access.

From here, find Aftershoot in the list, and enable the toggle next to its name.

2. Username Change

In case you recently updated your MacOS and used Mac Updater, it’s possible your username might have changed. If that happens to be the case, go to Finder and open Users, then a folder with your username, then Library, and lastly Application Support. There, find rs.Aftershoot and open default-config.toml

The complete path should look like this:

/Users/<user_name>/Library/Application Support/rs.Aftershoot/default-config.toml

Inside, everywhere it says /Users/<your_old_user_name> replace it with /Users/<your_new_user_name>

3. Aftershoot Doesn’t Have the Necessary Permissions

You might need to make sure that Aftershoot has all the necessary permissions.

If your cache is located on your system, launch Aftershoot and go to Settings.

Then, click on the Import & Export tab.

There you can find the path to Aftershoot’s cache on your system.

Follow that path and find the Aftershoot Projects folder, right-click it, and then select Get Info.

In the window that opens, click on the Sharing & Permissions tab and make sure that the Privilege next to your username is set to Read & Write.

If your cache path is set to an external drive, make sure that your drive is properly connected to your system and try again.

Windows

1. Multiple Users On One System

If you have multiple users on your Windows system, launch Aftershoot and open its Settings.

Then select the Import & Export tab from the list.

There you can find the path to Aftershoot’s cache on your system.

Follow that path and find the Aftershoot Projects folder, right-click it, and then select the Security tab.

Find the username that works with Aftershoot and make sure that it has all the permissions.

2. Username Change

In case you recently updated Windows and used Windows Updater, your username might have changed. If that happens to be the case, go to:

C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Aftershoot\config\default-config.toml

Inside, everywhere it says C:\Users\<your_old_user_name> replace it with C:\Users\<your_new_user_name>

3. Third-Party Antivirus

If you’re running third-party antivirus software, it might interfere with Aftershoot, causing it to take a long time to launch or get permission-related errors.

If that’s the case, disable it when working in Aftershoot and give it an exception if the software’s settings allow it.
