Itâs our continuous goal to make Aftershoot as flexible as possible so it fits any workflow. But we understand how having many settings can become confusing. In this article, we will explain every option available in Miscellaneous Settings.
Use accompanying JPEGs for RAW files
When available, Aftershoot will use the JPEG version of a RAW file â for preview and display. This improves performance and loading time, for a faster and more responsive culling session.
Enable auto-advance to next photo after changing star/ color
Once you assign a Star Rating/ Color Label to an image, Aftershoot will automatically display the next one. This way you wonât have to manually switch between images after rating them, speeding up your workflow.
â
âNote: If you didnât adjust the Star/Color rating of an image, Aftershoot wonât auto-advance to the next image.
Maintain the zoom level while moving through photos in the Loupe View
When adjusting the zoom level while in Loupe View, that same zoom level will be maintained on the next images you switch to. Useful when checking sharpness or focus across a series of shots, so you donât have to adjust the zoom every time.
Automatically change star rating while changing the color and vice versa
Enabling this will synchronize Star Rating and Color Labels â changing one will automatically update the other. This ensures consistency across all your ratings, especially if you use both stars and colors in your workflow.
You can check and modify Star/Color ratings by going to the Rename Colors tab in Settings.
Send email notifications with album statistics after culling is completed
Aftershoot will send you an email summary with the details of the culling session once itâs completed. This way you can know when a culling session is finished, without having to sit in wait in front of your system.
Show existing Stars/ Colors during import
If your images have Star Rating/ Color Labels embedded in them, these will be displayed during the import process. This will allow you to see ratings you made previously, either in-camera or in another software.
Update the list of images immediately upon any changes made to Star/ Color
Image lists and filter groups will refresh as soon as you adjust a Star Rating and/or Color Label. This will let you see how many images are in a filter group at any given time, allowing for a better understanding of what your final count looks like.
Auto-skip reviewed images in a duplicate set in the Loupe View
When enabled, images you already rated within a duplicate set will be skipped, with Aftershoot jumping to the next unreviewed image. This prevents accidentally re-reviewing images.
Write keywords to metadata
Aftershoot will save cull filter keywords (e.g. Selected, Highlights, Flagged, etc.) directly into the XMP metadata files of your images. This will allow you to transfer and review your selections in other software like Lightroom or Capture One.
Remember my choice of AI Automated culling and AI Assisted Culling
Aftershoot remembers your last culling mode choice and pre-selects it for future albums without your input. Enable this if you consistently use one culling mode, to save a step every time you cull a new album.
Switch to native image processing for culling
Aftershoot will use your operating systemâs built-in image processing instead of its own resources when culling. This can improve culling speed and loading times, but only when your system canât handle our default image processing.
Use GPU image processing pipeline (show edits for RAW images)
Aftershoot will use your dedicated GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) to process and render edits on RAW images. This will accelerate rendering, allowing faster edit previews on RAW images.
Note: This requires a dedicated GPU. If you have a system with an integrated GPU â this should stay off.
Flag your camera rated images after import
Images rated directly on your camera will be automatically flagged when imported into Aftershoot. This way you donât have to perform additional actions to see your in-camera ratings after import.
Show duplicates above main filmstrip in Loupe View
Enable to display duplicate images in a separate strip above the main filmstrip. This allows you to review duplicates, in context, without losing your place in the main sequence.
Enable Spray Can hover function on Survey mode filmstrip
When in Spray Can mode, you can hover over the next duplicate set in Survey Modeâs filmstrip to navigate between them. This way you donât have to manually select each set.
Use spacebar to zoom in on Key Faces
Pressing the spacebar will zoom into detected Key Faces in an image. This way you can quickly check the sharpness and focus without having to manually zoom into a face.
Show "Latest Preview" in Retouch Tab
Aftershoot will display the most recently generated preview in the Retouch Tab, for easier review of adjustments.
