One-Click Cull & Edit

Written by AftershootAI 🦄

Once you've completed your first Cull and your first Edit with Aftershoot, then you're ready to learn how to optimize your workflow.

The One-Click Cull & Edit feature combines the two key things Aftershoot can do for you into a single, smooth, and efficient package. Today, we'll cover how you can launch BOTH culling & editing at the same time, and take care of other things in the meantime.

Note: The One-Click Cull & Edit becomes available only once you've run one cull and one edit inside Aftershoot.

Step 1. Import Your Images

On the Aftershoot home screen, click on New Album and import your images.

Once you're done with that, go ahead and click on the One-click Cull & Edit button in the upper right corner of the screen.

Note: One-Click Culling & Editing is only available for RAW & JPEG images, not LR/C1 catalogs.

Step 2. Set Your Culling Preferences

When you get to the One-Click Cull & Edit screen, just set up your preferences as you usually would.

Select the type of photoshoot that you intend to cull in this session. Aftershoot's AI will take this into account when analyzing and deciding which of your images are the best.

Next, you need to choose between a standard AI Cull or one customized to your liking.

A standard AI cull will apply preferences based on the photoshoot category that you chose. The only thing you have to select here is the culling strictness level, depending on the number of photos you'd like to receive.

If you choose to, you can customize your preferences when it comes to how Aftershoot assigns the following filters to photos:

  • Highlight Photos - Aftershoot will create a separate group of images that it thinks are best out of the selected ones.

  • Duplicate Photos - the AI will analyze the images for their likeness and group the most similar ones together, putting the best one forward. You can also customize how strict the AI should be when deciding which photos are similar by choosing the number and size of duplicate groups that you wish to receive.

  • Blurry Photos Detection - toggle this on to have the AI group blurry images separately. You can also select how strict or lenient the AI should be when deciding if a photo is blurry or not.

  • Closed Eyes Detection - by having this option on, Aftershoot will analyze your images of faces with closed eyes and place them into a separate group.

Most of these preferences and filters can be adjusted through a slider. As a rule of thumb, keeping the slider on the left side will give you fewer photos, and keeping it on the right will give you more.

After you're done setting your preferences, you can save them for future sessions by checking the box in the upper-right corner of the window. Now just click the Next button.

Step 3. Set Your Editing Preferences

After your culling preferences, it's time to set your editing ones. The first thing you need to choose is the Professional AI Profile, AI Style, Creator Style, or Instant AI Profile you want to use for this edit.

Note: Keep in mind that Professional AI Profiles trained on Lightroom Catalogs can only be used to edit Lightroom Catalogs, RAWs, and JPEGs. The same logic applies to Profiles trained on Capture One catalogs.

Moving on is the option to have Aftershoot automatically Crop your images. If you wish to use it, simply click on the toggle and select between a Loose or Aggressive setting, as well as your preferred image ratio outcome.

The next thing you'll need to decide in terms of editing preferences is whether you want to use automatic AI Straightening.

Next, you'll need to decide if you want to have Aftershoot apply AI Masking to your images. After you click on the toggle, you need to choose between two options. Subject Mask with Edits, where Aftershoot will apply AI-based edits to the generated masks. Subject Mask Only, where Aftershoot will only generate subject masks without applying any edits.

The last thing you need to decide is which images you want to edit. Select the filter group(s) and camera(s), for the images you want to edit.

Just like with the culling preferences, click on the checkbox in the upper right corner to save these preferences for future editing sessions, and click on the Next button.

Step 4. Start The Process

Now you can review all the culling and editing preferences you decided on. In case you change your mind, just click on the Go Back button or the edit icon next to the Culling Preferences and make any necessary changes.

You can also save these preferences for the future if you haven't done so on the previous screens.

Once everything seems in order, simply click on the Start Cull & Edit button and sit back.

You can track the progress of your culling and editing on this screen. If you wish to do so, you can cancel the culling process by clicking on the Cancel button. Afterward, you will be redirected to the Import Tab.

Once the culling process is complete, you can review Aftershoot's selection while the app continues editing in the background. You can also cancel the editing process if you change your mind by clicking the Cancel button.

If you wish to edit these images later, you can still do that in the Edit tab as you would normally.

When the editing process is over, you will be taken to the Edit tab. There, you can proceed to review the images, manually edit them, or go to the Cull tab and make adjustments.
